Another Way to Withdraw Money From PayPal in Kenya

Following our recent article on how to withdraw cash from PayPal via Liberty Reserve, we found another much easier way. This is thanks to bonchisdecha.

Update: PayMPESA Helps Withdraw Your PayPal Funds to MPESA

Babawatoto.com
BabaWatoto.com have an innovative service which they call “Tuma Pesa“. This is tailored for Kenyans in the diaspora who want to send money back home. However, nothing restricts you from using the service to send money to yourself – ama?

Babawatoto.com will let you send money to anyone in Kenya and he will receive it on his mobile phone. The useful thing is that Babawatoto.com will let you pay via PayPal. This means one could easily send, say Kshs 20,000/-, through Babawatoto.com to his own mobile number and pay via PayPal. This will effectively mean that you have transferred money from your PayPal account into your mobile phone – ready to use locally!

You just need to visit this page to get started.

Kudos to Babawatoto.com for providing such a needed service.

Update 17 May 2011 – The above method does NOT work from within Kenya. Learn more. 🙁

  1. Oh my God I hate you. Literally. I had already figured this out but I didn’t want to tell Kenyans because there are stupid Kenyans who will start moving thousands of dollars weekly, which will cause the mijghty Paypal to maybe suspend Babawatoto’s merchant account and in the end we will be back where we started. Did I mention I hate you?

I think this is an innovative solution, but the limit is quite low ($272.89 charge inclusive) and the charge is quite high. The charges are slightly above $18 taking a ksh 79 per dollar exchange rate and slightly above $22 if one takes an exchange rate of ksh 80 per dollar.

  3. How come Babawatoto do not have an option for one to delete an account if one no longer wants to use their services? You can register but no option for one to delete the account they created?

  4. Doesn’t help Kenyans in Kenya with money in their PayPal Kenyan accounts. But at least, alternative ways of withdrawing exist and many keep cropping up every single day. Surely, we’ll have a lasting solution soon. My prayer.

  5. It’s true. This doesn’t work for Kenyans in Kenya with Kenyan PayPal accounts.

  6. which “guys” are you referring to?

  7. Bryan Grand says:

Paypal charges around 2.5% on their exchange rates when paying in another currency than US$, making the total amounts, including transaction fees, quite expensive. Tuma-Pesa.com is another service like babawatoto’s tuma pesa, only in Euros, though even if paying with US$, more profitable than babawatoto, western union and moneygram services.

  8. DollarBill says:

Prayers ARE answered, the solution has finally arrived! The name of the game is NationHela Visa card.

“A key feature of this card is that it allows you to make ATM withdrawals of money which has been sent to your PayPal account. Currently, local PayPal users lack this facility that is still missing in the country,” said Ian Fernandes, the NMG Digital Division managing director.
